On Friday 17th April, North Yorkshire Councillors voted to refuse Danone Harrogate Spa Water Reserved Matters. This is a HUGE win for all involved and though it is important to celebrate, we cannot let our guard down yet. It is likely Danone will appeal the decision and so we need to stay united in our continued efforts to save our beautiful Asset of Community Value Woodland. You can help by donating to our campaign via our Go Fund Me page (link below), and/or join our Facebook group, Instagram, and email list to get up-to-date information.
Multi-billion-dollar global corporation, Danone Harrogate Spring Water, already produces a staggering 36,000 single-use plastic water bottles per hour. With licence to extract 464 million litres of water per year!
Danone's deforestation policy states a commitment to tackling deforestation, and a pledge to be forest-positive by 2030 across its entire value chain. However, its Harrogate Spring Water brand seem intent on deforestation of our precious woodland, to expand and unleash tonnes more plastic pollution on the planet each year!
Rotary Wood was planted under the leadership of the amazing Terry Knowles, over 20 years ago. Many individuals, such as the fabulous Jane Blayney helped to plant this now very special and popular public green space, along with numerous community groups and local school children, including the Army Foundation College, Western Primary School, Rossett Acre Primary School and Harrogate Ladies College.
The Pinewoods are the lungs of Harrogate. Rotary wood: its beating heart. Rotary wood was planted for a more sustainable future; it is hope, community, belonging, connection, peace and prosperity of body and mind.
Our campaign has the backing of Dame Judi Dench, Joanna Lumley, Jonathon Porrit, Dr George McGaving, Samuel West, human rights campaigner Bianca Jagger, and Champions for Earth: Olympians and sports personalities. It is the people's wood.
Join us and the many amazing celebrities in our continued efforts to Save Rotary Wood. Together we will send a clear message to do what's right by putting people, local wildlife and the wider planet before plastic and profit.

Rotary Wood is 4.25-acres of community woodland located in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
It was planted over 20 years ago (2005) by community groups and local school children to commemorate the Rotary centenary and to tackle climate change. It is a registered Asset of Community Value.
It is well-used and well-loved by the community, supporting physical and emotional wellbeing. Rotary Wood supports a variety of flora and fauna, including protected species and local priority species. Our woodland is now at the stage for optimal carbon sequestration, supporting a sustainable future.
We are not 'out of the woods yet'!
Despite Friday's refusal of the Reserved Matters, there is still cause for concern due to the likelihood of appeal. Your support has been crucial in getting us this far and will continue to be necessary to keep the pressure on!
